Employment Contracts and Directors’ Service Agreements

Your employment contract or, if you are a director of the company, your service agreement, is an important document which sets out all of the terms and conditions of your employment. It is important that you understand all of your rights and obligations under your contract.

If you are starting a new job, getting a promotion or your employer is changing your terms and conditions for any other reason, we can advise you on what your contract says and whether it is reasonable.  We can also help you to negotiate the terms of your contract or service agreement.

Some of the most important elements of a contract of employment are “restrictive covenants” or post-termination restrictions.  Restrictive covenants set out what you can and cannot do after you leave the company.  For example, you might be prevented from working for a competitor, soliciting customers or poaching staff.  If you are being asked to sign up to restrictive covenants, or if you have left your employment and your employer accuses you of breaching your restrictive covenants, we can help.
