The Southern Powerhouse: Solent Local Enterprise Partnership
Coffin Mew commissioned a major report to look at the challenges and opportunities facing the South as a region in establishing itself as, what could be described as, the Southern Powerhouse.
The report consists of several interviews with key people in the region – from chief executives of property development companies, property investors as well as those heading up the Local Enterprise Partnerships.
As the government prepares to publish the long delayed white paper on levelling up, it is essential for the whole country’s economy that the South is not levelled down. In this article, Anne-Marie Mountfield, Chief Executive of the Solent Local Enterprise LEP, highlights some of the areas that continue to require investment in the South, as well as the rest of the country, so that the whole of the UK can compete globally. These key areas for investment include housing, infrastructure (particularly transport and superfast 5G), and people and skills.
