What’s your role?

I advise clients on a wide range of issues affecting business owners. These include selling or buying a business, funding and investment arrangements, and constitutional and structural matters, including share issues, and shareholders’, members and partnership agreements.

Being part of the management team in a successful business like Coffin Mew really helps when assisting clients to achieve their goals. I know exactly what it’s like to run a business, and the issues and pressures which business owners confront, so I use this knowledge, alongside my many years of legal experience, to advise clients in a practical, commercial, clear and timely way. My job is not to find problems, it’s to solve them.

So whether advising a disparate group of clients owning shares in a business, with various different approaches and priorities, right through to large scale cross-border transactions, I apply the same rigorous approach, always focused on the client’s agreed objectives– all delivered with clear communication, no fuss, on time and on budget.

Your experience

Over many years of doing deals, I recognise that markets, trends and levels of sophistication have changed markedly. Buyers of all professional services have also become much more sophisticated, so my service reflects this ever-changing landscape. 

No two deals are ever the same, and I work across numerous sectors, with different types of client and on all kinds of deal structure, complexity and size.

I have seen countless different types of transaction and structure over the years, so I bring a real understanding of the principles underpinning these approaches, and how the key is to understand objectives and ensure that solutions fit them.

Because I have advised such a wide range of clients, I have learnt to adapt my communication style to fit clients’ needs. This is especially vital when working with clients on an important transaction, when there tends to be an intense period of lawyer working shoulder to shoulder with the client to guide and support him or her through the process.

  • I had laser surgery on my eyes in 1996 – when the procedure was in its infancy;
