What’s my role?
I am Trainee Solicitor assisting both the Corporate and Dispute Resolution teams based in the Brighton office. Previously, I was in the Court of Protection team and the Clinical and Catastrophic Injury team before that.
As I am split across two practice areas, the work that I touch on is incredibly varied. My work assisting the dispute resolution team concerns on the more contentious side of things like disputes over partnership agreements, breaches of construction and other contracts and resolving shareholder disagreements. However, I also help out with the non-contentious work the Corporate team undertake such as the preparing and distribution of board resolutions, company constitutional and structural matters and dealing with investments into all kinds of businesses.
This split makes the role fascinating, intellectually stimulating and challenging but, most of all, incredibly rewarding.
I obtained my undergraduate degree in Music Industry Management in 2015 at the University of East London; achieving a 1st class honours award classification. I then went on to complete both the Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) and Legal Practice Course (LPC) at the University of Law in Guildford. I combined my LPC with a Master of Laws in Professional Legal Practice and achieved a Distinction grade in both my GDL and LPC. I secured my training contract at Coffin Mew in August 2017, before joining the firm as a paralegal in the Commercial Property department in September 2017 and starting my training contract in September 2018.
Sincere thanks for your advice and guidance that has enabled us to complete the succession plan for the company. I am very grateful to you, and it has been a real pleasure to work with such a professional team.
I wanted to properly record my appreciation of your help. You were always very quick to respond on questions and made helpful inputs into the negotiation process. It was a pleasure working with you.
Not only did Nick understand the process inside out, but brought a human and practical approach to bear on the challenges we faced as the sale proceeded. His commitment to tight deadlines was second to none – when you have a senior partner working past midnight then you are quickly reassured that you are in good hands! We could not have hoped for a better team behind us and would not hesitate to recommend them wholeheartedly to anyone facing this critical juncture in the life of their business – it’s not something you can leave to chance!
We have used the team at Coffin Mew on several occasions for two separate clients. The transactions all involved assisting our client to acquire third party companies, usually with earn outs and other complications. The team were very responsive and constructive, focusing on genuine commercial issues in due diligence and document preparation, as well as negotiating calmly but firmly to protect us on the legal front. Being outside the London region we found their charges very reasonable and their general experience helpful without the need to involve a large number of specialist units.”
With the assistance of Coffin Mew plus the other parties, what could have been a challenging acquisition became a smooth purchase. With their guidance and advice from the initial question of “what if” through the negotiation, the team were there all the time with answers and advice, which is just what we needed.
Thanks to everyone for your patience, determination and hard work getting this deal over the line. I cannot speak highly enough of the effort you have all put in.
I was delighted to have worked with a great Corporate and Employment team at Coffin Mew in our merger with Vail Williams. Led by Hayley Bevis, the team was highly responsive and very thorough, delivering pragmatic, commercially focussed advice within a tight transaction timescale. A pleasure to work with.
