What's your role?

As a Graduate Legal Executive, I meet with clients on a variety of matters that fall within the remit of ‘Private Client.’ A large number of my clients are those needing advice concerning Wills and potential tax planning– I thoroughly enjoy getting to know my clients, gaining an understanding of their personal situation and giving them the best advice accordingly. No two sets of circumstances are the same, which means I am constantly challenged to provide solutions that are both tax efficient and meet the client’s wishes.

I draft Lasting Power of Attorneys for both Property and Financial Affairs and Health and Welfare matters – I passionately believe that these documents are as important as Wills and are widely under-utilised. I can assist in drafting the documents and overseeing their registration a well as acting as a Certificate Provider.

Much of my time is spent dealing with matters of Probate and estate administration. It is immensely rewarding to help individuals through difficult times by making what can be a complicated and difficult administrative process as simple and straight-forward as possible. This includes dealing with property elements of estate administration, such as First Registrations or drafting Declarations of Trust, which allows my clients to receive an all-encompassing service with more continuity.

Your experience

I became a Graduate Legal Executive in August 2018 and am working towards becoming a Chartered member. I have worked at the Newbury office since the completion of my LLB Law degree in June 2016, where I began as a paralegal. With the support of the firm, I continued my studies through CILEx as an Associate member, progressing both academically and practically as the matters I was working on began to match the level of study I was undertaking.

I work predominately on my own matters now, though I enjoy assisting senior members of the team on complex Inheritance Tax planning and trust administration matters.

The Head of Wills, Trusts & Probate is Annabelle Vaughan.
