Your role

I am a Solicitor in the Employment team and deal with a wide range of issues for both employers and employees.

We advise clients on both contentious and non-contentious workplace matters. My experience includes advising on day-to-day HR matters including exiting staff, disciplinary issues and grievances, as well as the drafting of contracts and policies, and advising on complex settlements.

I have a keen interest in helping clients manage their data protection obligations and issues within the workplace. Given my time at the REC, I also have a great deal of experience in advising recruitment companies and departments on recruitment specific legislation and issues. I also work closely with our Corporate team to assist them with transactions, particularly navigating TUPE transfers and managing strategic change.

I spent time in the Commercial team and have a range of experience providing commercial support and advice, particularly to start-up and recruitment businesses. My previous work in the Commercial team allows me to bring a high level of commerciality to my advice on Employment law matters. I work hard to get to know my clients to understand how they operate and what is important to them, to achieve the best end result.

I am passionate about helping start-up businesses and providing advice to ensure new companies deliver their potential. I am also a member of the firm’s cross-practice Technology Sector team. We help fast growth/scale-up businesses and large companies in the technology sector with all their legal issues.

As part of our holistic approach to advising employers, I also advise on business immigration.

I am also a member of the firm’s CSR Committee, and enjoy helping with fundraising initiatives for the firm’s chosen charities.

Your experience

I qualified as a Solicitor in September 2017, having undertaken my training contract with Coffin Mew.

During my training contract, I experienced diverse areas of law and a range of quality clients. I completed seats in Employment, Catastrophic and Clinical Injury, Corporate, and Commercial.

Prior to joining Coffin Mew, I worked as a Legal Adviser at the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC), the professional body for the recruitment industry, where I provided legal assistance to a large number of recruitment companies, focusing mainly on employment and contractual issues.

Before that, I attended the University of Manchester and the University of Southampton, and completed the Legal Practice Course at the University of Law in Guildford. In my spare time, I am also completing a Masters in International Legal Practice through the University of Law, in association with the International Bar Association.

I often provide commentary and opinion pieces to HR and technology focussed publications, and enjoy delivering seminars and training sessions on all aspects of employment law.

The Head of Employment is Leon Deakin.
