Bryan Scant

Associate Solicitor and Collaborative Lawyer - Family

What's your role?

I assist clients who are going through the difficult process of a divorce or separation by providing them with help, advice and guidance on how to progress their matter in a cost effective and as painless manner as possible.

I am a specialist family solicitor with a focus on dividing assets on divorce and in particular high value and complex matters involving pensions, spousal maintenance and valuable assets.  I am able to advise clients where one party has attempted to hide assets, has spent excessively and also where expert evidence is required to advise on assets such as business and valuable possessions including jewellery and horses.  Being based on the south coast I am also able to advise on Armed Forces Pensions, including how they should be divided on divorce and regularly act for serving personnel and retired servicemen and women who are separating.

My experience also includes advising clients who are involved in a dispute concerning the arrangements for children.  I have a solid background in matters such as these and my experience includes advising clients on national and international relocation with children, advising parents on contact arrangements when there is a history of domestic abuse and advising clients on appealing a decision of the family court.  I have previously worked on cases with a public law element and as such I am able to assist clients who have previously had involvement with social services.

In addition to my work on the breakdown of a relationship, I am able to advise clients who are consider a nuptial agreement (both pre and post nuptial agreements) on their options, how best to protect their assets on divorce and also on the fairness of any proposed agreement.

I pride myself on being able to build a positive working relationship with my clients, which is both friendly and informal whilst ensuring that their case is dealt with robustly.

Your experience

I have been a qualified solicitor since 2013 having undertaken my training at a High Street firm in Poole, Dorset.  My training consisted of private client, property and family work which has given me a solid understanding of the variety of legal issues that can arise from a relationship breakdown.

In addition, I have experience of obtaining emergency injunctions for both victims of domestic abuse and their children and advising clients on the impact of domestic abuse on the arrangements for children.

Within matrimonial proceedings I have advised client’s on obtaining injunctions to prevent the disposal of valuable assets, advised business owners on how their business assets are considered on divorce, advised clients on adding back the disposal of significant assets and excessive spending by one party that has sought to reduce assets on divorce.  I have also regularly advised clients on claims for ongoing spousal maintenance, taking into consideration long term health needs and the standard of living enjoyed throughout the marriage.
