Consultant, Barrister - Armed Forces
What's your role?
To provide a knowledgeable, sympathetic and reassuring initial point of contact for serving and former members of the Armed Forces, Reserve Forces and their families and to assist them with the myriad of problems unique to service in the Armed Forces. I work with all ranks and rates within the Armed Forces, with organisations that support the Armed Forces and former Service Personnel and their families, dealing with disciplinary, administrative and employment issues at all levels.
The most important part of my role is to be able to, “speak the language”. It is vital to be able to understand a problem rapidly and to establish a rapport quickly with individuals. Having been there; seen it and done it, I have this ability.
I previously served a Full Career Commission in the Royal Navy from 1971-2007. This background gives me a wealth of knowledge in matters relating to all Armed Forces personnel issues and includes specific expertise in the areas of Court Martial preparation and trial, Summary Discipline, Armed Forces Employment and Statutory Service Complaints.
While serving I gained a Law Degree from the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth, was called to the Bar, sat as a Uniformed Judge Advocate and was Appointed OBE in the Golden Jubilee Birthday Honours List. I served both at sea and ashore and ended my career as the Deputy Director of the Naval Legal Services.
On leaving the Service I joined Private Practice specialising in Court Martial Advocacy, Military Employment and Administrative casework with marked success.
Advocacy at all levels and all matters related to service in the Armed Forces including:

Mr Bob Williams OBE was recommended to me by a fellow serving Royal Mariner. He is highly regarded within the RM and I can only agree. Due to his previous jobs within the RN fills you with confidence knowing he is the best at what he does.
I felt supported and prepared due to the work carried out by Bob Williams. His efforts certainly made the process as painless as it could possibly be in the circumstances. Thank you for everything.
I believe you went above and beyond what would normally be expected in the situation. Particularly when compared with the other barristers present, I felt that you stood head and shoulders above them.
We would like to say that Bob Williams conducted himself with extreme professionalism and went above and beyond in his work with myself.
Mr Williams played the leading role in my long legal discussions concerning an armed service related problem. He was informative, and with his legal expertise finally won my case. Great information at speed – most helpful.
