Your role

I am a Solicitor in the Employment team based in Portsmouth.

I advise both employers and employees on a wide range of contentious and non-contentious workplace matters. I assist employers with drafting or reviewing their employment contracts, privacy notices, staff handbooks and other internal documents as well as being available to help with ad-hoc HR queries on various issues such as grievances, exiting staff or disciplinary matters. I also advise employees on employment related matters and have experience advising individuals on settlement agreements they may have been given by their employer and the effect of these.

I have spent a lot of time in the Commercial team as part of my training which has allowed me to bring a commercial approach to the work and advice I give in an employment context. I also understand that all businesses and clients are different and each require a bespoke service dependent on their requirements and how they prefer to receive advice.

Your experience

Before joining Coffin Mew, I graduated from Cardiff University in 2015 with a First Class Honours degree in Law.

I subsequently worked as a paralegal in the personal injury sector for a couple of years, dealing with high-value claims. During this time I gained experience dealing with a number of clients who had suffered serious brain, orthopaedic and spinal injuries as a result of an accident. I was responsible for completing a variety of work delegated to me by my team members. These tasks included things such as: dealing with new enquiries, drafting instructions to counsel and medical experts, reviewing important documentation and attending client meetings and conferences.

After securing a training contract with Coffin Mew during the summer of 2017, I left my job as a paralegal and went on to complete my Legal Practice Course with a Masters in Law, Business and Management, where I achieved a distinction. I then decided to take some time out and went travelling for four months around South America before starting my training contract with the firm.

As part of my training contract, I completed seats in a wide range of areas including residential property, commercial, corporate, dispute resolution and employment. I qualified with the Firm in September 2021.
