Southern Powerhouse – The Rutland Group

Posted on: December 15th, 2021

Coffin Mew commissioned a major report to look at the challenges and opportunities facing the South as a region in establishing itself as, what could be described as, the Southern Powerhouse.

The report consists of a number of interviews with key people in the region – from chief executives of property development companies, property investors as well as those heading up the Local Enterprise Partnerships.

In this article, Jim McAllister of the Rutland Group, developer of the 700-acre former Dunsfold Aerodrome site touches on a number of key issues affecting the South and beyond, including planning reform, investment in skills and apprenticeships and infrastructure. However, as the dust settles on the recent COP26 Summit in Glasgow, it is also worth noting his belief, as a member of Friends of the Earth, that there is no dichotomy between development and the environment and that what we are building needs to be part of a grander scheme that takes environmental and other factors into account.
