Southern Powerhouse – Enterprise M3 LEP
Coffin Mew commissioned a major report to look at the challenges and opportunities facing the South as a region in establishing itself as, what could be described as, the Southern Powerhouse.
The report consists of a number of interviews with key people in the region – from chief executives of property development companies, property investors as well as those heading up the Local Enterprise Partnerships.
In this article, Kathy Slack OBE, Chief Executive of Enterprise M3 Local Enterprise Partnership, favours development in the South that incorporates incubator centres for new businesses, that provides bases for existing businesses to grow and prosper, and that helps create world class “clusters”, such as already exist in sectors such as gaming, lighting design and manufacturing, which then attract further inward investment into the region. In the context of the Government’s “levelling-up” agenda, Kathy Slack argues that the South needs to better articulate its economic importance and demonstrate that what happens in the region is financially beneficial to the whole country.
