The Corporate Team at Coffin Mew were delighted to assist TRL Limited (the Transport Research Laboratory) in acquiring Appia Infrastructure Solutions Limited, a consultancy and software company which has developed and successfully rolled out a software solution for the management of highways infrastructure assets to bring about real, sustainable efficiencies and service improvements.

TRL and Appia have worked closely together and synergy between those two companies meant that Appia was a natural acquisition partner for TRL.

The Scheme Engineer suite of software products can be purchased off the shelf as well as customised and allows highway maintenance work to maximise the value from limited operational budgets. Purchased by large national contractors as well as local authorities in the UK, the plans for the future include rolling out the software, in conjunction with TRL, to combined projects overseas – indeed plans are already underway in Africa.

Corporate partner Amanda Brockwell worked with the senior management team at TRL to bring the transaction to a successful conclusion.

Sue Sharland, the chief executive at TRL said:

We enjoyed working with the team at Coffin Mew and appreciated the very practical advice and solutions to issues. Our acquisition of Appia represents a key strategic development for TRL’s future as a prestigious and world leader in  traffic and highways research and consultancy.
