Planning Law and Environmental Law
Our specialist planning law and environmental law service gives advice on all aspects of planning, highways, environment and local government law to clients across all sectors.
Our Planning lawyers have advised a range of clients from professional sports clubs, housebuilders and developers, to private clients and all types of local authorities.
We always give consideration to the political context to our work. Planning proposals involve planning authorities and often these have political priorities for certain types of projects. We seek to work closely with local authorities and be aware of the different considerations that they give to planning proposals.
The planning sector is recognised by central government as a key economic driver and as a result of this there is constant reform and changes in the system. We are aware of the bigger picture and the political context in which the planning system operates, and use our political insight and inside knowledge of the system to assist clients with legal and tactical advice to advance their projects and objectives.
We advise in relation to all aspects of planning applications, assisting in securing planning consents, ironing out problems in the political process, or dealing with issues post-implementation of a planning permission.
We negotiate and draft planning agreements under section 106 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990, and highways agreements under sections 38 and 278 of the Highways Act 1980 (amongst others).
In addition to the above we advise on the full range of planning issues including planning enforcement and compliance, appeals, highways and rights of way issues, conservation and listed buildings, judicial review and decision making, compulsory purchase, and environmental issues.
