Remember a Charity in your Will Week 2018
The Remember a Charity in your Will Week (10 – 16 September) is now in its 9th year, and this year they are not only encouraging people to consider leaving a gift to charity but have provided a tool to help individuals discover the right charity for them.
Gifts (also known as legacies) in Wills generate £2.8 Billion for charity each year, but with only 6% of Britons including a charitable gift in their Will, there is huge scope for growth. Many charities rely on gifts such as these to continue their important work, making it an especially worthwhile consideration for all individuals.
The ‘Human’ search engine will also launch this week, alongside the campaign, and will allow individuals to ask questions such as: ‘How can we cure breast cancer?’ and ‘How do we put an end to rough sleeping?’. By using this tool individuals will be able to identify charitable causes which are close to their hearts and will hopefully encourage them to go on and leave a charitable gift in their Will.
Any gift you leave to charity via your Will be inheritance tax free, ensuring that your charity of choice will receive the full benefit of your generous donation. You can also include specific requests in your Will about how the charity should use the funds. For example, you may wish that the money be used towards funding a particular type of research or towards funding additional staff.
It is important that you seek advice from a Solicitor who can assist you in drafting your Will. They will be able to ensure that full effect is given to all your wishes.
