Posted on: October 14th, 2016

Coffin Mew recently held a joint roundtable event with NatWest and Grant Thornton, aimed at business leaders in the Manufacturing sector across the South Coast.

The event, held at Hotel Terravina, Southampton on Tuesday 6 September, focused on the challenges of recruiting and retaining the right skills, to reach businesses growth ambitions.

Colleagues from across the sector discussed the key areas effecting growth within the sector. The discussion has been summaries in our White Paper ‘Will today’s workforce deliver tomorrow’s growth?’, click here to view.

The key areas identified include;

  • Recruiting and retaining talent
  • Engaging staff to enhance productivity
  • Apprentices
  • Margins
  • Culture
  • Infrastructure challenges

Hayley Bevis, Senior Associate Solicitor and Manufacturing sector legal specialist says;

These events have proved really useful to manufacturing business leaders to enable a sharing of experiences and also best practice within the sector. It is clear that recruiting and retaining talent in manufacturing remains a challenge, but the business leaders that we speak to are keen to consider new ways of working such as partnering with University Technical Colleges (UTCs). It is a changing sector with more technological advances than people outside of the sector may think. Changing the perception of the sector to those outside of it will play a part in the success of recruiting the manufacturing business leaders of tomorrow.”

The next Manufacturing sector event will be held on Tuesday 6 December, at Hotel Terravina, Southampton. Please email Charlotte Bell to register your interest or join our mailing list.
