A four-person team from law firm Charles Lucas & Marshall, recently merged with Coffin Mew, lifted the trophy at the fifth annual Rotary Club of Newbury’s ‘Boules in the Square’ Tournament.

The one-day tournament saw 16 teams from the local business community face off in a closely fought competition. The grand final was entertainment on a knife edge, as it was contended by reigning champions A-Plan All Stars and the team from Charles Lucas & Marshall.

In the end, it was the latter team that stole a march to win the game and the tournament.

The event raised £2,000 to support Newbury Rotary’s nominated charities including End Polio Now, Parkinson’s UK and West Berkshire Mencap.

Hemant Amin, Partner at Charles Lucas & Marshall, commented: “What a great day, with the Newbury community coming together to raise money for such deserving causes – a day made all the sweeter by our team being crowned champions!

“The final was a nail-biter for all involved, but we were delighted to be able to edge the competition when it mattered. I would like to extend the thanks of the whole team to the organisers at Newbury Rotary Club who put on such an enjoyable event.”

‘Boules in The Square’ is expected to return in June 2018, where the team from Charles Lucas & Marshall will be looking to retain its title.
