Challenges to growth in the recruitment sector

Posted on: January 19th, 2017

The recruitment sector is one which attracts highly motivated business owners who often want to grow their businesses. Managing the speed of growth, finding ways of funding that growth and then dealing with the management of a larger organisation are a few of the challenges business owners face. This can be achieved through organic growth, through acquisition of premises, or expanding into new sectors, along with growth through mergers and acquisitions or external funding.

With this in mind Coffin Mew’s specialist recruitment team hosted a roundtable discussion at the prestigious Limewood Hotel on Tuesday 17 January. In attendance was guest speaker Adrian Gunn, former Chief Executive of Matchtech Plc, as well as recruitment business owners based across the South region, complimented by the attendance of a recruitment sector corporate finance specialist.

The discussion was wide-ranging and diverse, due to the difference in size of the companies represented at the table, from start–ups to well established businesses with high turnover. However, the fundamental issues bought to the table were very similar – employee retention and securing motivated and talented recruits were among the main focal points.
