As a Trainee Solicitor, you will rotate seats every six months and have exposure to both contentious and non-contentious work, so that you can get as much experience as possible across a range of legal disciplines. From day one you will be given significant client responsibility with hands-on client contact across a number of sectors and will be welcomed into one of our dynamic teams who will encourage and support you to succeed. To be considered for one of our training contracts you will need to be degree-level educated and complete an online application.

We welcome applications from all graduates and undergraduates, not just those who have studied law. Successful candidates will then be invited to attend our assessment centre day where you will complete a number of exercises throughout the day so we can learn more about you and your strengths and you can learn more about us.

The training programme is managed by Miles Brown and Amanda Read, who are assisted by our Employee Mentoring Scheme and the HR team, who work together to provide a collaborative, supportive and nurturing environment for all our Trainees.

We are regularly recognised as a top employer in the Lex 100 student guide scoring highly for: confidence you’ll be kept on, friendly firm, and work life balance. We are also a winner in the client contact category; “There is ‘client contact on offer from an early stage’, as well as ‘excellent access to quality work’ which sees trainees ‘heavily involved in files and transactions.”

Additional feedback from the 2019 Lex100 verdict outlines, “Coffin Mew ‘strives to be a workplace for the future’. A ‘big focus on tech, flexible working and a “dress for your client” policy’ is proof. Many praised the assessment centre, which was described as ‘well run’ and some trainees particularly enjoyed being ‘called the same day by the managing partner to offer me a training contract’ which made them ‘feel valued from the outset.”

We are extremely proud to have offered 100% of our second year trainees a position as a Solicitor at the firm in 2017 & 2018, so you can be assured you’ll be given every opportunity to succeed on our programme.

You will get the chance to meet with our current trainees in a Q&A session and a chance to speak with some of our partners and solicitors.

You will gain an insight into our training contracts from the Training Partner, Amanda Read, and a detailed overview of the firm from HR.

“I joined Coffin Mew because I was looking for a varied training contract experience at an ambitious regional firm. I was not disappointed. I was given a high level of responsibility from the outset and a good range of client work and client contact in all of my seats.”

Emma Stevens
